How to Create and Manage Custom Dashboards in eComm
This guide walks through how to use the Custom Dashboards feature in eComm Construction Information Management. Custom Dashboards allow users to personalize project dashboard views, organize columns, save layouts, share views, copy views to other projects, export dashboard data, and manage saved views.
1. Open the Project Dashboard
From inside a project, go to the left-side project menu and select Project Dashboard.
The Project Dashboard displays project items in a table format. The dashboard includes filters, search options, column headers, and a Customize View menu.
2. Review the Default Dashboard View
At the top of the dashboard, review the available dashboard controls.
These may include:
- Dashboard View
- Item Type
- Only Awaiting My Attention
- Only Overdue
- Dashboard Keyword Search
- Customize View
The default dashboard view shown in the demo is My Active Items.
3. Use Dashboard Filters
Use the dashboard filters to narrow down the information shown on the dashboard.
You can filter by item type, search by keyword, or use checkboxes such as Only Awaiting My Attention or Only Overdue.
These filters help users focus on the items that are most relevant to them.
4. Open the Customize View Menu
Click the Customize View button.
A dropdown menu opens with several options for adjusting and managing the dashboard view.
The menu shown in the demo includes:
- Reorder Columns
- Customize Columns
- Share
- Copy
- Delete
- Export
- Manage Views
The available options may depend on the selected view and user permissions.
5. Reorder Dashboard Columns
Select Reorder Columns from the Customize View menu.
The dashboard changes into a column-reordering mode.
In this mode, you can drag columns by their handles and drop them into your preferred positions.
6. Move Columns Into the Preferred Order
Drag the column headers into the order you want.
For example, you may want important columns such as item type, description, last action, posted date, final due date, or comments to appear in a specific order.
Reordering columns helps each user organize the dashboard around their workflow.
7. Save or Reset Column Order Changes
After modifying the column order, eCOMM displays options to Reset or Save Changes.
Click Save Changes to keep the new column order.
Click Reset if you want to discard the changes and return to the previous layout.
8. Customize Dashboard Columns
To add or remove columns, open the Customize View menu again and select Customize Columns.
A panel opens where you can choose which columns should appear in the dashboard.
9. Choose Which Columns to Display
In the Customize Columns panel, check the columns you want to add to the dashboard view.
The demo shows examples such as:
- Description
- Comments
- Renewal Date
- Replace Plan Sheet(s)
Select the columns that are most useful for your role or project workflow.
10. Filter Columns by Item Type
Use the item type dropdown inside the Customize Columns panel to filter available columns.
This helps you find columns related to specific item types or project workflows.
The available item types and columns may vary based on project setup.
11. Apply Column Customizations
After selecting the columns you want to display, click Customize.
The dashboard updates to include the selected columns.
Once changes are made, eCOMM indicates that the view has been modified.
12. Save Changes to the Dashboard View
Click Save Changes to save the updated dashboard layout.
This keeps the modified column setup so it can be used again.
13. Create a New Custom View
When saving dashboard modifications, you can choose where the changes should be saved.
To create a new custom view, select [New] from the view dropdown.
Enter a name for the new dashboard view.
In the demo, the custom view is named Manager View.
14. Save the New Custom View
After entering the custom view name, click Save.
The new custom dashboard view is saved and can be selected from the Dashboard View dropdown.
15. Switch Between Dashboard Views
Use the Dashboard View dropdown to switch between saved views.
The demo shows the user switching to the saved Manager View.
This allows users to quickly move between different dashboard layouts depending on what they need to review.
16. Share a Custom Dashboard View
Open the Customize View menu and select Share.
The Share View panel allows you to share the custom dashboard view with others.
Enter the name or email address of the person you want to share the view with, then complete the share action.
Sharing views helps teams work from the same dashboard layout when needed.
17. Copy a Custom View to Another Project
Open the Customize View menu and select Copy.
The Copy View panel opens.
Search for the project where you want to copy the custom view, then select the appropriate project.
This is useful when you want to reuse a dashboard layout across multiple projects.
18. Export Dashboard Data
Open the Customize View menu and select Export.
The dashboard data begins downloading.
Use export when you need to save dashboard information outside of eCOMM, review it offline, or share it in another format.
19. Delete a Custom View
Open the Customize View menu and select Delete.
A confirmation message appears before the view is deleted.
Confirm the deletion only if the saved custom view is no longer needed.
20. Manage Saved Views
Use Manage Views from the Customize View menu to access saved dashboard view management options.
This area helps users maintain their custom dashboard views over time.
Best Practices for Custom Dashboards
Create custom views for different roles, workflows, or review needs.
Keep dashboard layouts simple so users can quickly find the information they need.
Use column customization to remove unnecessary information and highlight important fields.
Save custom views with clear names, such as “Manager View,” “Submittal Review,” “Overdue Items,” or “Project Closeout.”
Share views when multiple team members need to work from the same layout.
Copy views to other projects when the same dashboard setup will be useful elsewhere.
Export dashboard data when a project record, report, or offline review is needed.
Delete outdated views to keep the dashboard menu clean and organized.
Summary
The Custom Dashboards feature in eCOMM helps users personalize how project information is displayed.
