Construction Change Directive (CCD)

This guide explains how to issue a Construction Change Directive (CCD) in your project — creating the directive, documenting the scope and cost, obtaining approvals, and then releasing it to the subcontractor for action.

Steps:

  • Within the project, open the Change Management / Contracts / Change Orders module (or equivalent)

  • Click Create New CCD (or similar) to start the directive record

  • Enter a clear Description of the change being directed

  • Select the Related Contract or Allowance the CCD will apply to

  • Choose or link the Subcontractor / Party who will perform the work

  • Enter a Preliminary Cost Estimate or placeholder amount (if cost is not yet finalized)

  • Attach supporting documents (drawings, spec changes, correspondence) to justify the directive

  • Set the directive Status to “Pending Release” (or similar)

  • Obtain required approvals/signatures (project manager, owner/architect, etc.) if your workflow demands it

  • Once approved, click Release to Subcontractor (or equivalent) to notify the subcontractor and assign them the CCD

  • The subcontractor then proceeds with work under the CCD; track progress and ensure cost/time impacts are captured

  • After the subcontractor submits cost/time details, update the CCD record with Final Pricing and Schedule Impact

  • Change the CCD status to “Released” or “Executed” to indicate it’s in the contractor’s court

  • Monitor the CCD through to completion and conversion into a formal Change Order if required
